Overview

Who Wants to Be Cybersecure? is a culturally adapted mobile cybersecurity awareness game developed for research purposes by the Persuasive Computing Lab, Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your information is used.

Information We Collect

Who Wants to Be Cybersecure? collects only the following information:

• Username — a name or nickname you choose when setting up your profile in the app
• Game scores and progress — your quiz scores, levels completed, leaderboard position, and in-app activity
• Usage data — how frequently and for how long you use the app, including session duration and feature engagement

We do not collect your real name, email address, phone number, location, or any other personally identifying information through the app.

How We Use Your Information

Your username, game data, and usage data are used solely to:

• Display your progress and scores within the app
• Enable leaderboard and duel features
• Support the research evaluation of the app's effectiveness in improving cybersecurity awareness among Nigerian smartphone users

Permissions

The app requires the following device permissions:

• Internet access — to enable leaderboard features, duel mode, and sync your game progress
• Storage — to save your game progress locally on your device

The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, or any other sensitive device features.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any third parties, advertisers, or external services. All data remains within the app and is used solely for the research purposes described in this policy.

Data Security

Your data is stored securely. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information from unauthorised access or disclosure.

Data Retention

De-identified data will be retained for 12 months after the study ends and then permanently deleted.

Children's Privacy

This app is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 18.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
